My friend Amelia left today which is extra sad and quite surreal as we arrived together in Conakry airport. I was somewhat terrified my last hour of the flight thinking about what was going to happen and Mills walked up to me in an equally frightened state and I immediately felt I had a comrade.
We have had a fantastic 3 weeks and she lives in Australia so it’s not so bad but these moments cannot be recreated in anyway, just enjoyed as we lived them. God truly called her to such a time as this and I’m thankful to have met her. Clinically I’ve had a fun week learning more about rehab post cast removal and continuing to build confidence in using the cast saw. Watching the little kids walk is really rewarding after knowing the pain they went through from the operation. There is a focus on gaining knee flexion range and strength. I’m also learning to interpret x-rays and callous formation/cortex healing which is a goal of mine. In my goal setting discussion with my team leader we discussed how I want to grow in my ability to receive feedback and deal with it positively and also manage conflict in an effective way. Both things i was learning at Eastern before I came. God has been answering little prayers all week and really showing himself in his own way to my friends who are still on this faith journey and I’m thankful for their willingness to see that it is Him. It’s really been an answer to the insecurity I’ve been feeling since last week. And in bible study we have been discussing the need for obedience as a priority over service which is humbling to hear from my task-focused mind who wants to see results or do more always to make people see Christ. The COAH sermon about greater love has reminded me of the heart of evangelism, of loving my ship community and the patients/staff in Guinea. In other news I’m going to apply for my Kenya visa, have sent through the Samaritans purse paperwork, went swimming at a hotel, visited a craft market, went African dancing, the ship had a Christmas market, did something called “contra-dancing”. It’s been good. Fun fact: there is another girl called April who was born in April who just left the ship. What a world. She was also Asian.
